McLaren driver Jenson Button looking forward to challenge his teammate Lewis Hamilton on the track - Formula One News
McLaren’s Jenson Button recently stated that he is looking forward to challenge his teammate Lewis Hamilton on the track this season and is hoping that the battle between the them at the Chinese Grand Prix was the first of many more to come.
McLaren are looking really strong this season, and seem like the only team which have the pace to challenge Red Bull Racing for the titles.
McLaren was the only team that could somewhat match Red Bull’s pace during the qualifying sessions, but now it seems that both, Hamilton and Button, are determined to fight it out in the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix. Button believes that he is going to have
some more “battles on the track” in the upcoming races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“I feel very positive going to Turkey. Lewis and I had a real ding-dong there. We've had a couple this year, so hopefully it will be the same there. If we do it means we are both competitive. I just hope we'll be doing it in front of the Red Bulls and won't
make the same mistake they did,” said Button.
Jenson Button was unable to take the advantage over his teammate even though he was ahead of Hamilton in the beginning of the race. The Brit finished in fourth place, behind Red Bull's Mark Webber.
“For me, it wasn't a perfect race, but Lewis did a really great job and I think that helps with the motivation for the team. I think the team will be very happy. Not just the guys here but those back at the factory,” said the 2009 Formula 1 champion.
A glimpse of what McLaren has in store for the future was shown at the Chinese Grand Prix where Lewis Hamilton scored his first victory of the season and became the first driver to beat Sebastian Vettel this season.
Vettel won the first 2 races of the season after dominating throughout the weekend, as he scored the pole position at both, the Australian Grand Prix and the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Although he dominated the qualifying once again at the Chinese Grand Prix and secured his third consecutive pole position, he couldn't win the race, handing Hamilton his first win of the season.
