McLaren driver Jenson Button says he wants to stay with the team – Formula 1 news
2009 Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button has said that he wants to stay at McLaren until the end of his career and is hoping for an extension to his contract.
Jenson Button has not been able to perform at his best in the ongoing 2011 season as he has been quite inconsistent but one has to admit that his retirements at the German and British Grands Prix were not his fault at all. Now because of those retirements,
he is out of the drivers’ championship run.
Either way, his qualifying performance has been quite disappointing as well and that is not the team’s fault at all as Lewis Hamilton secured better results comparatively.
Despite the fact that there were rumours that Button might shift to Ferrari in 2012 as a replacement for Felipe Massa, the former world champion has not admitted that he wants to end his career with McLaren.
“Yes, as I said at the beginning of the year in China, I don't think those were my exact words but for me being at a team that has won many titles and can win the championship is exactly what I want. After winning the championship I want to be with a team
that always gives me the opportunity to fight for it and this (McLaren) is one of them,” he said.
Other than that, he added that he does not want to retire from Formula 1 anytime soon and that he is still hoping of participating in the sport actively even after he is in his mid 30s.
“I was thinking if I did four more years in formula one I would be 35 and I would retire from racing. I mean, what the h**l am I going to do at 35?” said Button.
Jenson is currently in 5th place in the drivers’ standings with 109 points and since he recently admitted that his chances of winning the title this year are quite low, it is now believed that he is going to help his teammate in the title run
for the rest of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
