McLaren driver Jenson Button says overtaking to be difficult at European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that overtaking will be tough at the upcoming European Grand Prix despite the double Drag Reduction System zones of Valencia.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced before the recently held Canadian Grand Prix that the teams can use the DRS twice in every lap of Montreal and the next Valencia race.
The McLaren driver, Button added that he is looking forward to another race victory in Valencia after the Canadian Grand Prix.
The FIA said that the DRS will be allowed to be used after turns 10 and 14 of the Valencia street circuit.
The Brit discussed the eighth round of 2011 Formula 1 season and said, “I'm looking forward to Valencia. I had a good race there last year and I think the track shares some of the characteristics of Montreal and Monaco, so I'm confident that we'll be competitive
again.”
He went on to add, “The trick will be to find enough performance in the race to overcome any potential difficulties in qualifying. It's a hard place to pass and, even though there will once again be two DRS zones, I don't think that's going to make it much
easier during the race.”
The 31-year-old driver was unable to finish his run on the podium due to lack of his car’s pace in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix. After that, he really worked hard and had a good pace in the next race weekends.
The team admitted that Button was moving in the right direction for McLaren from the start of the season.
In the recently held Canadian Grand Prix, he won the race for the first time in the ongoing season, overtaking Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull in the last lap of the race.
He had a good start to the Montreal race weekend where he finished his Friday practice sessions on the grid in a decent manner. He started his Canadian race from seventh place on the grid and after going through a drive through penalty for over speeding
behind the safety car, dropped to 21st place in the race.
After the two-hour break due to heavy rain, he restarted his race from the bottom row on the grid. However, he beat Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel during the last lap of the race for his victory. After the grand prix, the team driver admitted that it was an
unbelievable experience for him, as he struggled during the closing laps and snatched a race victory from Vettel in the end.
After achieving his goal in Canada, Button is looking forward to another race victory in the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix which is scheduled to be held on June 26, 2011.
