McLaren driver Jenson Button says teaming up with Lewis Hamilton not easy – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Formula 1 driver Jenson Button has stated that although he and Lewis Hamilton get along quite nicely in the McLaren still the fight on the track is as furious as it can be among any two drivers striving for victory.
Button added that although Hamilton’s qualifying performance has always been outstanding but on the race days, he might give a chance to his opponents to capitalise.
The 2009 Formula 1 champion added that Hamilton is the kind of teammate who keeps his opponent on his toes all the way to the chequered flag almost without any mistake.
“It's a good position to be in, and it keeps you on your toes, definitely. It's not a stress-free situation, though, because we are both fighting and we are both competitive, but that's not a bad thing. Having a good team-mate is a key in Formula One,” commented
Button.
Button added that things at McLaren camp are pretty much clear as both him and Hamilton will go for the championship regardless of taking points off each other. The Brit added that there are some teams who like to have one driver that only plays a second
fiddle but that was not the case with them.
Button stated, “Some drivers like to have a team-mate who is not as quick. As you've seen this year we've been taking points off each other, which is not the best thing for the drivers' championship, but it is the way it should be. It has always been in
Formula One in the past.”
Button and Hamilton have been fighting among themselves unlike any other team drivers have done so far in the 2011 Formula 1 season. In the Chinese Grand Prix, Hamilton overtook Button quite dangerously because Button was trying to save his position and
could have collided.
Then in Montreal, both finally collided but Button states that the atmosphere in McLaren is that no one is the second driver.
