McLaren driver Jenson Button says years of hard work has finally paid off – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Formula 1 driver Jenson Button has stated that his hard work over the years has finally paid off as he is ranked amongst the top drivers of the Formula 1 teams like Ferrari and Red Bull Racing.
Although the Silverstone Grand Prix did not prove good for the Brit as he had to retire from the race after a loose tyre, his name came up for possible Red Bull 2012 drivers replacing Mark Webber.
Previously being speculated to have been in talks with the Ferrari team to replace Felipe Massa for the 2012 season, Button thinks that all these talks are good to listen to after 12 years of hardship he has endured in midfield teams.
Button stated, “I've worked hard to get where I am and for what I've achieved, and I feel there is a lot more I can achieve in Formula One. That's probably one of the reasons why I'm being linked with other people, so it's nice to have positive comments
written about you, You could say I do feel in a privileged position. It's nice to be in that position.”
Button struggled with the lower ranked teams at the start of his career for nine years before getting his hands on a car that was capable of winning races, Brawn GP. He then showed his true potential as he won six of the first seven races of the 2009 Formula
1 season.
Button has previously stated that he had three teams in mind when he joined the Formula 1 sport, Williams, McLaren and Ferrari.
Over the course of 12 years, Button has driven for Williams and McLaren but Ferrari is still his dream as he said, “So it's a case of never say never. You've got to keep your options open, never burn any bridges.”
Nevertheless, the last ten races of the 2011 season are still to be contested and it will be interesting to see where Button finds himself for the 2012 season.
