McLaren driver Jenson Button shows concern about car’s balance – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has showed concern about the balance of MP4-27 after the free Friday practice of 2012 Singapore Grand Prix.
Button set the third best time in the first free Friday practice session at Marina Bay Street Circuit and came second in FP2. Even though, he seemed quite comfortable behind the wheel of his car throughout the practice sessions. However, the British driver has asserted that he is still facing problems in his car’s balance.
The 2009 world champion said that according to the nature of the track, they came up with some updates in the car so as to improve its pace to score some competitive points in the night race. Although, he expressed that he is quite pleased with the performance of the car on soft Pirelli compound tyres but he said that he is not contended with the balance.
"We tried a couple of things that are different to what we normally run because of the nature of the circuit but some of them aren't correct I don't think so we're going to go back on them," Button said. "The car's OK and on the softer tyre I was happy because there's more grip but still the balance issues are there on both tyres even though as I said with the softer tyre it feels great, but the underlying issues are still there."
In addition, when he was asked about whether he will be able to claim pole for the forthcoming race, he said that he is not fully confident.
“The important thing is how the car feels; it's not the lap time at the moment,” he added.
Nevertheless, he said that they are hoping to make the essential progress overnight in order to come up stronger in the third practice and the qualifying so as to be able to secure a higher grid slot for the race ahead.
Besides, he said that he has been working with the team’s engineers to resolve the ongoing issues and have few solutions in mind. Over and above, he said that he is feeling positive for the upcoming race and is aiming to make his mark stronger in this year’s championship.
