McLaren driver Jenson Button struggles with hard Pirelli tyres – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he is facing difficulties in understanding the hard Pirelli tyres regardless of dominating the timesheets in second free Friday practice session of 2012 Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
The Briton set the best time of 1 minute and 23.399 seconds in FP2 on soft compound tyres. However, when he was running for longer race configurations, he struggled to cope with the track temperature. Therefore, he said that they need to solve this problem
as soon as possible before the race day so as to perform well.
“It was a good afternoon but I think a tough afternoon trying to understand the tyres,” he said. “I still don't quite understand them. The car seems to be working pretty well on the softer of the two tyres but on the hard tyre I just can't get it working,
I just can't get the temperature in to the tyre. I don't know why that is but something we need to sort out for tomorrow and for Sunday.”
In addition, he said that he could not be able to predict the nature of hard tyres due to which he felt extremely confused. Nevertheless, he is feeling positive that they will resolve this issue.
“Then at the end of the session I couldn't get the tyre working again. It's a tricky one; hopefully we'll solve it tomorrow,” he said.
The 2009 world champion is presently standing at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 53 points. Furthermore, he is five points behind Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
He took an amazing victory in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after setting off from second place in the grid. Besides, he secured an impressive second podium finish in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China.
Conversely, in the second and fourth race he could not score even a single point even after qualifying for second and fourth grid position.
Nonetheless, he is targeting to deliver the best performance in the race ahead so as to make his position stronger in 2012 F1 World Championship.
