McLaren driver Jenson Button thinks they are back in title fight – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button thinks that they are back in the title fight after delivering an incredible performance in the 2012 German Grand Prix.
Button secured an inspiring second podium finish in the German GP after the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing was relegated to fifth position because of his unfair pass during the second last lap. Moreover, he performed remarkably during
the race and gave a tough time to the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who claimed the victory in the end.
Although, he had been struggling with the finding his true potential after the third race as he suffered with the lack of pace due to the tyre degradation and the aerodynamic issues. Nonetheless, he made a striking fight back in Hockenheim and expressed
his delight after attaining competitive result.
Moreover, he said that they are the quickest contender in the field and asserted that if they will be able come up stronger in the next couple of races, they can surely challenge for the title this year.
“I am happy that we have done a good job and we have good pace. There is no-one quicker than us at the moment and we can fight for the win in the next few races,” said Button.
In addition, he expressed his gratitude towards his team for all their efforts and said that he is confidently looking forward to achieve more in the forthcoming races.
“I have had some difficult races earlier in the year but in the last two I have felt confident in myself and the team, but we weren't quick enough, so to come here and fight at the front for the victory was a very special feeling,” added the 2009 world champion.
Furthermore, he said that they earnestly need to enhance their pace in the qualifying of the season ahead to bounce back in the championship battle.
Currently, the British driver is standing at 7th place in the drivers’ standings with 68 points. Besides, he is ahead of Romain Grosjean of Lotus and is behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
