McLaren driver Jenson Button urges team to bring major changes for Silverstone GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Formula 1 driver Jenson Button has stated that his team must bring some huge developments for the next race of the 2011 Formula 1 season that will take place at the legendary Silverstone circuit.
After having a disappointing weekend in Valencia, Button urged his team to come up with something risky rather than staying in no man’s land where Mercedes are too far behind and Red Bull are too far ahead.
The McLaren team did not bring any upgrades for the Valencia GP and the results were drastic as Button and Lewis Hamilton were battling with themselves until the chequered flag.
Button stated, “We need to get our heads down and come up with something - particularly aerodynamically, I think. We need to take some risks. There's a big gap behind us to the Mercedes and a big gap in front of us in terms of Ferrari and Red Bull. We need
to take some steps forward.”
Talking about the European Grand Prix, Button stated, “It wasn't the most exciting race was it? After the start when I lost position and then regained position from Nico Rosberg, I don't think I saw another car all race. Overall, the pace wasn't there for
us.”
Button finished sixth in Valencia while having a gap of almost 10 seconds from the car ahead while Hamilton also saw the chequered flag alone as he was almost twenty seconds behind Mark Webber.
The 2008 Formula 1 world champion, Hamilton, stated that the McLaren team has taken a step backwards in terms of development because apart from Red Bull, Ferrari were way too faster for the British team.
Hamilton also stated that the season is over for McLaren and after losing Blown Diffuser for the Silverstone Grand Prix, McLaren cannot expect a good weekend there too.
Jenson Button is still second in the drivers’ championship but he is now 77 points behind Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton is 89 points behind the championship leader. McLaren find themselves 89 points behind Red Bull in the constructors’ battle. Let’s see if
something changes for them in the next grand prix of the season.
