McLaren driver Jenson Button wins 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix at Hungaroring – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button is once again back on the grid as he won the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix following his disappointing last couple of races of the Formula 1 season so far.
Button won the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 31, 2011 at the Hungaroring race circuit after battling throughout the 70 laps of the race with Sebastian Vettel and teammate Lewis Hamilton.
The Briton started his race from the third place on the opening grid and ended up in the top spot after struggling on supersoft and soft compounds.
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel was 3.5 seconds slower behind Button and finished his race on the second podium place.
Vettel kicked off to a strong Hungarian Grand Prix, where he started his race from the pole position. Vettel lost his lead to Lewis Hamilton during the fifth lap at turn 2 when he ran wide at the turn.
The current world champion was closely followed by Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, who finished his all laps and completed his race at the third place after a close fight with Button and Vettel.
Hamilton seemed to be in a stronger form from the initial laps of the race and he even led for much part of the race. However, due to call a wrong tyre strategy and a drive-through penalty during the Hungarian Grand Prix, he could not retain his lead until
the end of the race.
The Brit was penalised during the race when he crossed the chicane during lap 47. The sudden shower caused Hamilton’s car to spin at the chicane and after that, he tried to rejoin the track as quickly as possible. As a result of it, he forced Force India
driver Paul di Resta off the track and had to serve a drive-through penalty.
Red Bull’s second driver Mark Webber started his race from the sixth place on the opening grid and ended up in the fifth place with a gap of 49.7 seconds from Button.
On the sixth place was Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, who finished his 2011 Hungarian race ahead of Paul di Resta after struggling on the set of supersoft and soft tyres.
Mercedes GP’s both drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher were slow at the Hungaroring racetrack during Sunday’s race. The seven-time world champion was hopeful for the Hungarian Grand Prix, but he could not show his good performance due to having a
gearbox issue in his MGP-W02 car and retired out. His teammate Rosberg scored 2 points for the team in the Hungarian Grand Prix by finishing his race at the ninth position.
Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld were again unable to make an impressive run for Renault on the grid in Hungary. Heidfeld retired from the race, as his R31 car caught fire in the pit lane after a long stop, while Petrov came in the 12th spot.
All the drivers successfully ended their race on the grid in Hungary, except Vitantonio Liuzzi, Heikki Kovalainen, Schumacher, Heidfeld and Jarno Trulli.
After the Hungarian Grand Prix, Red Bull team is still on the top with 383 points in the 2011 Formula 1 constructors’ championship. However, McLaren-Mercedes is at the second place with 280 points in the championship battle at the moment.
Let’s see how the top teams of the ongoing season perform in the remainder of this season.
