McLaren driver Jenson Button’s restaurant business fails – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button had started a restaurant in Yorkshire with a name Victus which has now being closed due to the ongoing economic crisis.
Button’s manager, Richard Goddard has sadly said that the project which they began has failed to work out as their target population doesn’t have the necessary income which is left to spend on restaurant visits after making all the required expenses due
to the prevailing economic climate.
“Unfortunately, the business was launched in an economy which then continued to slide and just hasn’t stopped, with people simply not having the disposable income needed to spend in restaurants,” the McLaren driver’s manager Richard Goddard said.
Victus Restaurant was opened during the preceding year and Button himself attended the opening ceremony. His net worth has been estimated about 53 million pounds and he invested in the venture along with Goddard.
Although, economic recession has been considered as the major reason for the shut down, however, the reports have revealed that the restaurant had copied many of the dishes as well as the branding of the products.
Furthermore, it is to be noted that the chief executive of Harrogate Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Brian Dunsby has said that the restaurants are doing quite well in the town which gives a clear explanation of the issue that Victus has faced immense criticism
over their imitating strategies due to which they have suffered.
It will be important to mention that the British driver is not the only one who has come up with an idea of starting a restaurant business as Romain Grosjean of Lotus also asserted that he would love to transform his love for food into a full time professional
career when his first show up in F1 failed back in 2009.
“It is no secret that I have gastronomic talents,” the Frenchman said. “So I would try to work in a restaurant and maybe open a restaurant one day. I know many Michelin star rated French chefs and luckily for me they are all F1 fans so I am sure I would
find place to develop my talents further.”
