McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton admits collision with Jenson Button was his own fault – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton has admitted that the collision between him and his teammate Jenson Button was entirely his fault at this past weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix.
Hamilton was having a rough day as he chipped Mark Webber after the first safety car period ended following which he collided with his teammate as well. The second collision with his teammate ended Hamilton’s race.
The 2008 Formula 1 world champion tried to overtake his teammate on the pit straight where Jenson Button was clearly on the inside line. However, Lewis tried to squeeze his car in from the inside line and since the conditions were quite unstable, Jenson
was unable to understand and the two teammates collided.
Nevertheless, Hamilton realised his mistake and stated that everything is ‘cool’ between the two teammates.
“When they had the long break Jenson came up to the room and just said: 'Sorry about that I didn't see you.' And I said: 'Yeah my fault entirely, I was in the wrong place really at the wrong time,' and that's it. We're good team mates, I think,” he told
the media.
He added that he is downhearted after this result either even though the result of the Canadian Grand Prix makes it two disappointing results in a row for him.
“You know what, I think you make your own luck. I feel very blessed to be here still in F1, fit, healthy and alive and still racing. There are many, many drivers that wish they could be in our position. Of course you could always hope for things to be better,
but good times do come to those who wait,” said the former world champion.
Hamilton stated that he is going to try to bide his time and hope for the best in the future as the current situation is completely against him. However, his teammate Jenson Button scored a shocking victory at the Canadian Grand Prix and finally defeated
Sebastian Vettel who seemed unbeatable in the current season.
The upcoming race is going to be quite vital for McLaren as it seems that they are the only team who have the potential to beat Red Bull Racing team this year.
