McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton believes they still need to work harder – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton believes that they still need to push harder in the second half of the 2012 Formula 1 season in order to fight for the championship title.
Hamilton has been deemed as one of the most favourite drivers in this season’s championship. Moreover, he is standing amongst the list of most consistent point scorers as he secured third podium finish in the first three races and took the pole positions
in the first two of them.
Later on, even though he struggled with the team’s poor pit stop strategy in couple of races, however, he made a striking comeback and claimed his first victory of this season in the Canadian GP.
Afterwards, he faced limited downforce and tyre variation issues in the next three grands prix. Nevertheless, he made an amazing return in the Hungarian GP at Hungaroring Circuit in Budapest and scored an inspiring victory after dominating throughout the
weekend.
Even though, he said that they have made a big step forward in terms of car’s updates in the preceding race. However, he asserted that they still need to work harder in the approaching season so as to catch up the lead in the championship battle.
“Yes, we know that we have made a huge leap forward and we still have to work hard in the second half of the season to keep staying ahead of these guys as we did today,” said the 2008 world champion.
In addition, he said that Lotus have shown impressive pace in the previous race and it was extremely hard for him to remain ahead of them. Nonetheless, he said that they managed to do so and expressed his gratitude towards his team for all their support.
Above and beyond, he said that they are looking forward to come back stronger in the title fight after the summer smash.
“Lotus was phenomenally quick today and keeping them behind was a pretty hard job - and we’ve managed it. So we all can sail off to a relaxing summer break without even thinking about racing - just to come back strong again in one month in Spa,” he said.
