McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton confident of an exhilarating 2011 Indian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton of Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes team is pretty confident at the moment that his team stands great chances of putting up a spectacular show at the inaugural 2011 Indian Grand Prix scheduled at Buddh International Circuit this weekend, October
28 - 30, 2011.
The 26-year-old Briton is looking to repeat his wonderful performance at the recently held Korean Grand where he was seen in amazing form. He lost the first step at the podium to double-champion Sebastian Vettel, ending up at the second spot pushing Mark
Webber of Red Bull Racing team at the third place.
Sebastian Vettel had clinched the drivers’ championship at Suzuka three weeks ago and with the Enstone based-team winning the constructors’ title in the recently held race at Korea, both the drivers’ and constructors’ champions have been declared for this
season. Drivers and teams are now focused on showcasing their best performance for the remaining three races to go and development work for next year’s cars is also underway.
The Buddh circuit which is a new addition to the Formula 1 calendar had been the centre-stage of much hype over the last few months and has recently attracted immense attention and popularity not only in the sub-continent region but in the international
media as well.
Hamilton while commenting on the design of the circuit said, “It looks just the same as Korea in terms of setup,” he further added, ”I think the characteristics of our car will suit the track just as they did in Korea. Perhaps a little bit better with high-speed
downforce, because we have pretty good high-speed downforce. I think we could be in a good position.”
His team-mate Jenson Button, who was only able to finish off at the fourth position at the 2011 Korean Grand Prix also looks very optimistic about the weekend’s race. The 31-year-old Briton is currently at the second position on the drivers’ championship
however, the Red Bulls will make sure they do not lose out on any opportunity to elevate Mark Webber up onto the runners-up position.
Button said, “In the simulator it's good fun and I'm hoping it's fun in reality. You've got some very low-speed corners and I think they've done a great job having a nice wide entrance so that you have the opportunity to overtake.”
The McLarens see the high-speed Buddh racetrack as pretty suitable to their MP46 and are looking forward to participating in the 2011 Indian Grand Prix which should hopefully bring good news for the Woking-based team.
The success of this weekend’s race will set stage for more such initiatives to take place in the coming future. With more circuits being constructed in different regions of the world, not only would Formula 1 fan base expand but more opportunities will be
generated for people worldwide.
It will be exciting to see how the 2011 Indian Grand Prix turns out to be, and how the teams perform at this newly constructed circuit.
