McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton defends move against Jenson Button in Canadian GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has said that his overtaking move against his teammate Jenson Button in the opening laps of the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix was perfectly legitimate.
Hamilton ended his race just in the seventh lap of the race after the collision but still thinks that Button closed him in and the incident was part of the race.
Hamilton said, “I don't think it was intentional. He just kept moving across, whether or not he saw me, and I was in the wall He made a mistake into the last corner so I got the run on him and was on the outside.”
The Brit also added that though his day was ruined in the early moments of the race but still Button did nothing wrong.
Previously Hamilton’s aggressive driving style was going to be discussed among the stewards when the Brit collided with Red Bull’s Mark Webber.
However, stewards found out that no one was to be blamed for that incident and no penalties were handed.
Hamilton did somewhat the same thing in the Monaco Grand Prix when he was responsible for two car crashes and damaging the front wing of Michael Schumacher.
Nevertheless, the Brit has once again stated that he had nothing to do with any of the crashes and explains the damage to his own car.
“It was only the tyre that was busted so I put the diff-lock [a mechanism that increases traction] on and I was going to drive it back to the garage and the team told me to retire. I thought that the suspension had gone, because that was what they told me,
but it turns out it was not,” said Hamilton.
The Formula 1 world will hit the road two weeks later in Valencia on June 26, 2011.
It will be interesting to see how Hamilton drives there where the teams did pre-season testing sessions. Hamilton is now fourth on the drivers’ championship table with 85 points.
