McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton feels hopeful for the season ahead – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is feeling hopeful for the season ahead despite facing difficulties in the last two grands prix.
Hamilton could not score even a single point in the European GP even after setting off from second grid position because of his collision with Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
Later, in the British GP held at Silverstone Circuit, he could only secure 8th place finish after taking a start from the same grid slot as he struggled with the tyre management and aerodynamic issues.
On the other hand, his teammate, Jenson Button faced difficulties in the qualifying of the preceding race and could not make his way into Q2. Afterwards, he performed reasonably well during the race and secured 10th place finish.
The 2008 world champion asserted that they must make the essential improvements in their car for the forthcoming races in order to fight for this year’s championship title.
“You have got to look at the cars in detail, just look at them and ours looks different from others,” he said. “I am not an aerodynamicist but there's got to be something there, so that's what we're looking at for this car, but also for next year's car.”
In addition, he said that he and his compatriot didn’t feel quite comfortable behind the wheel of their car during their home race. Nevertheless, he said that they have been making the best of the efforts to ensure the car’s reliability and are optimistic
for the season ahead.
“It is too big a change for this season. I feel for us all at the team because everyone is working their backsides off. But neither Jenson nor I have the car to be able to do that at moment. We can get there. I believe we can get there,” he said.
The Woking based team is presently standing at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 142 points. Besides, they are 44 points ahead of Mercedes and just 2 points behind Lotus.
Above and beyond, they have got all what it takes to be on top and it will be very interesting to see how they come up in the approaching season.
