McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton is happy with MP4-27 updates – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is very much pleased with the team’s updates made in MP4-27 during the Mugello test to improve its pace in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
However, he said that he could not be able to find the right setup for his car during the free Friday practice sessions of Spanish GP in which he set the fourth best time of 1 minute and 23.909.
“We just struggled a little bit with setup but the upgrades have worked pretty well,” he said. “We've got good pace generally - particularly on the longer runs - so at least we're in the fight. I'm just a little unhappy because I'm not sure, we had an inconsistent
setup today which means it's difficult to pinpoint what I need to do to change the setup to make it better.”
On the other hand, his teammate, Jenson Button dominated the timesheets in FP2 with his best time of 1 minute and 23.399 seconds.
Nevertheless, the 2008 world champion said that he will look forward to the information which has been gathered during the Friday practice sessions in order to solve the issues which he is facing to perform well in the qualifying.
“So I'm just going to go and look at the data and try and find out where the most serious issues are and try and correct those for tomorrow,” he said.
In addition, he expressed that he did not feel much difference in the pace of the car with new higher nose on the front wing as compared to the old one.
He is presently standing at the second place in the drivers’ championship with 49 points. Moreover, he is four points behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing and one point ahead of Vettel’s teammate, Mark Webber.
Furthermore, he has shown quite consistent performances in the season so far as he secured third podium finish in the first three races.
Although, he could only secure 8th place finish in the last race in Bahrain, nonetheless, he is positively looking forward to the next race in Barcelona.
