McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton keeping an eye on Ferrari – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton is keeping an eye on Ferrari after the Friday practice of 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal as he believes that they will come up strong in the qualifying.
Hamilton set the best time of 1 minute and 15.259 seconds in FP2. Additionally, he completed 43 laps and ran the car on supersoft tyres during the afternoon.
The British driver was followed by Ferrari pair of drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa who ran with the new exhaust configuration and gathered some valuable information for making further advancements.
Even though, the 2009 world champion topped the timesheets in both the practice sessions. However, he expressed his concern about pace and improved tyre management of the Scarlet team while he said that they will definitely be coming up stronger in the qualifying.
“I think qualifying looks like it's going to be very close and you've got the Ferraris that look like they're going to be very quick,” he said. “Their tyre degradation seems to be better, at least it was at the last race, so I'll be keeping an eye out for
them. It looks again like it could be another one-stop race like it was at the last race; my tyres I think did well over 30 laps so it will be interesting.”
On the other hand, his teammate, Jenson Button could only complete 12 laps during FP1 due to an oil leakage issue and came 10th on the timesheets. Nonetheless, he bounced back in FP2 after resolving the problem and set the 9thbest time of 1 minute and 15.812
seconds while he completed 14 laps.
Afterwards, Button praised the efforts of the team’s mechanics and expressed his gratitude towards them despite facing the difficulties.
The Woking based team is presently standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 108 points. Besides, they are 38 points behind the defending champions, Red Bull Racing and 22 points ahead of their main rival, Ferrari.
Above and beyond, all the contenders are trying their best to make the substantial preparations for the race ahead and it will be very interesting to see how they all perform as the season progresses.
