McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton says Montreal is a special place for him – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that Montreal is a special place for him, as he won his first Formula 1 race over there.
He also mentioned that after a disappointing recently held Monaco Grand Prix, he is looking forward to a strong race in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
Hamilton had a collision in the Monte Carlo race weekend with Ferrari’s Felipe Massa at the start of the race and due to that, he had to pay the penalty. He had again a contact during the race with Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado.
He was twice given a drive-through penalty during the Monaco race. Due to that, he finished the race in sixth spot.
The Monaco race results were very disappointing for the team, as they were expecting a podium finish from Hamilton.
The 26-year-old driver discussed the Montreal race weekend and added that it is one of his favourite races in the Formula 1 season.
The Brit said, “I've always got on really well with the track as the layout seems to suit my driving style. Perhaps even more importantly the fans in Montreal, and everyone in North America who makes the trip to the city, are some of the best in the world.”
He praised the viewers of Canada and said that he received a great support from them in the 2010 Formula 1 race weekend.
Apart from that, he said that the team has a perfect car in the ongoing 2011 season which will help them in getting excellent results at Montreal.
Hamilton went on to add, “Our car should be well suited to this track. We have a great engine, the best KERS (power boost) system in the sport and excellent traction out of slow corners. All in all it’s set to be another good weekend for us. I'll be looking
for a strong result on Sunday.”
