McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton says car was pretty good in FP1, FP2 – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that his MP4-26 car has been pretty good throughout the FP1 and FP2 of the 2011 Brazil Grand Prix, held on Friday, November 25 at Interlagos.
Hamilton discussed his first two practice sessions of the Brazil race weekend and added that his second lap on the soft tyres by Pirelli in FP2 seems really good. He also mentioned that he was quite comfortable in both practice sessions with the set-up changes
for the last round of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Apart from that, the Brit stated that although he finished the FP2 in the top spot, he is sure Red Bull Racing team will be quickest on the raceday, which will be held on Sunday, November 27 at the Sao Paulo racetrack.
The 2008 world champion was at the third position in the first practice session of the Brazil GP, while in FP2 he set the fastest time of 1 minute and 13.392 seconds ahead of all drivers after running on the sets of soft and medium compounds.
Talking to reporters, Hamilton commented after the both practice sessions, “You always want to know what the Red Bulls are doing - they always seem to be a second faster so you assume they're doing a lighter-fuel run than everyone else. But we were a similar
pace to the Ferraris so we're there or thereabouts.”
The 26-year-old driver further added that he thinks the Red Bull Racing drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber will still be quicker in race pace.
He went on to mention, “But the Red Bull will still be very quick and Ferrari look good this weekend as well. But the long-run pace was looking good and the tyres are lasting well, but it's potentially going to rain so you really don't know what to expect.”
Hamilton also stated about his car pace that his car is quite competitive at the moment and that it feels really good on low and high fuel loads.
In addition, he mentioned that he thinks if the track stays dry on the raceday, they will be in the same position they were in at the 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Let’s see whether Hamilton wins the Brazil GP or not following his strong start to the race weekend.
