McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton says goodbye to his team – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said goodbye to his team ahead of the remaining four races of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton’s agreement with the Woking based team is going to expire at the conclusion of this season and he has already signed a new deal with Mercedes for the next year as Michael Schumacher’s replacement.
Moreover, the seven-time world champion has decided to take retirement at the end of this year while the British squad has signed a new multi-year contract with Sergio Perez of Sauber who will join as Jenson Button’s teammate in the coming season.
The 2008 world champion has said farewell to his team. Furthermore, he expressed that he has spent a long time with them and will always cherish the moments throughout his life ahead.
“I’ve spent half my life at McLaren. The team, the cars, the place, the people — they’ll always be special to me,” the 27-year-old told them last Friday.
In addition, he said that he is earnestly looking forward to the fresh challenge and will try his best to take the Brackley based team to new heights in the future. Nevertheless, he said that McLaren will always be special to him.
“The Mercedes building definitely isn’t as spectacular as the MTC (McLaren technology centre),” he smiled.
“I hope to bring great success to Mercedes, but McLaren will always have a special place in my heart,” added Hamilton.
It will be important to mention that the British driver struggled during the last race and could only score one point with his 10th place finish as he faced an issue in his car’s anti-roll bar.
Although, he said that his hopes for winning the championship title have faded now but he is still targeting to perform at his best in the remainder of the season to achieve competitive points for his team.
At present, he is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship. Besides, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and is behind his major rival, Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus. Let’s see how he performs in the Indian GP this weekend.
