McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton says he respects limits of the Marina Bay – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton has recently stated after the Friday free Practice sessions that he respects the limits of the Marina Bay despite the fact that a number of kerbs have been removed from the track.
The British driver finished in 3rd place in the timesheets of the second free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix which was quite satisfying for the team as they were just around 8 tenths off Sebastian Vettel’s fastest
time of the day.
“We were competitive in P1, but in P2 there was a larger gap to the front and we started struggling a little with the rear tyres. There are some areas out on the track where the bolts are coming out of the kerbs - they must be taking some serious force from
the cars,” Hamilton said.
However, because of Jenson Button’s gearbox failure, the team is going to have a tough time in order to prepare both of their cars for the Singapore Grand Prix at their best. However, they are still optimistic about this weekend as these sorts of problems
are common in Formula 1 and improving the pace is the team’s goal for the weekend at the moment.
“Either way, we're going to improve the car overnight; we'll change the set-up a little bit. Qualifying will be very important tomorrow, because a good starting position for the race will be vital,” he added.
Keeping in mind that Red Bull Racing are still undefeated at qualifying in 2011, Ferrari and McLaren are going to aim for the pole position this weekend once again and it seems that this might be their best chance keeping in mind the characteristics of the
track.
The Singapore Grand Prix is an out of the ordinary event as it is held at a street track at night which changes the situation completely for the drivers. Performing in those conditions keeping in mind that all the teams have the same amount of time makes
it quite an interesting challenge in the end.
