McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton says his car radio had issues during Hungarian Grand Prix – Formula 1
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that his car radio had issues during the 2011 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix and due to that, he could not finish his race on the podium.
Hamilton was engaged in a battle with his teammate Jenson Button in the closing laps of the Budapest race. However, due to a sudden rain shower he opted to switch to intermediate tyres but in the process, lost his lead.
The team driver told the media that he called his team for wet tyres, but they did not hear him and he completed one more lap after that.
Talking to reporters, the Brit said, “I think there was perhaps one point when they got some information from me but maybe it was a little bit of info. I heard them say it was going to rain and it was already spitting, so we opted to go for the wet tyres.
I think they called me in and I did the lap. Anyway the tyres went off and it wasn't necessarily the best call, but that's motor racing.”
Apart from that, Hamilton discussed his drive-through penalty and admitted that he made a big mistake during lap 47 when he crossed the chicane causing his car to spin and after that, he tried to rejoin the race quickly. As a result of rejoining the race,
he pushed Force India-Mercedes’ Paul di Resta off the track and had to serve a penalty for dangerous driving.
The 26-year-old driver appreciated the performance of his teammate Jenson Button, who won the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring race circuit.
Hamilton went on to mention, “Congratulations to Jenson, he was pushing me hard the whole race and the better man won today. Of course we would have loved a one-two. I feel like I let the team down a little bit.”
Despite his fourth place finish in Hungary, the Woking-based outfit driver stated that he was competitive during the grand prix and that he thinks it will be a fantastic way for the team to go into the summer break.
Let’s see how they perform in their races after coming back from a break.
