McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton says not impossible to win 2011 championship – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that it is possible for him to fight for the 2011 title, because he is 88 points behind the leading driver Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in the championship battle at the moment.
Hamilton is sitting at the third place with 146 points behind both of the Red Bull drivers. There is no massive difference of points between Hamilton and Vettel at the moment. However, the McLaren driver stated that he can cover the gap of 88 points from
the current leading driver in the last eight rounds of the ongoing season.
Hamilton said, “It's a shame we didn't have another race straight away but there's nothing we could do about that. There are 200 points up for grabs and I will enter all the races believing I can win them. It is going to be an exciting run-down to the last
race in Brazil and I can't wait for the next round in Belgium.”
The Brit added, “Our car's pace is there right now as we have shown with our wins, mine in Germany with the fastest lap and Jenson's in Hungary. The car's on song because of our excellent qualifying pace at both.”
The McLaren driver has won two races in the season so far. He admitted that now he is moving towards their right direction. After winning two races in the ongoing season, he is looking forward to win this year’s title.
He believes his MP4-26 car’s pace is good in the qualifying round and on raceday, therefore he said that they can target to beat their competitors in the upcoming race weekends.
In the Budapest race, the 26-year-old driver was 48.3 seconds off the pace of his teammate Jenson Button, who was the winner of the Hungarian Grand Prix. After struggling a lot, Hamilton came at the fourth place in the final race classifications.
