McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton sets fastest time in FP1 of 2011 Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton topped the Free Practice session 1 of the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix held on September 23, 2011 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The first Practice session of the Singapore race weekend was delayed for 30 minutes due to some repair work on the kerbs of turns 3 and 14 of the circuit.
All the drivers came out on the grid when the delayed practice session was finally underway. The teams used the sets of soft and supersoft tyres by Pirelli in the first Practice session of the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix. Most of the drivers tested some new
upgrades in their respective cars during their practice run at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
McLaren’s Hamilton set the fastest time of 1 minute and 48.599 seconds in the session after completing 10 laps.
The Brit was closely followed by Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel, who had a gap of 0.406 seconds from Hamilton and finished his practice run in the second place.
On the third place was Red Bull’s second driver Mark Webber, who took a positive start in the Singapore race weekend following his disappointing 2011 Italian Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa claimed fourth and sixth positions respectively for Ferrari in the practice session at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The Woking-based outfit driver Jenson Button was 2.353 seconds slower behind his teammate Hamilton in Friday Practice session 1 in Singapore and after running on the sets of supersoft and soft compounds, the Brit ended his practice run in the fifth spot.
Adrian Sutil of Force India had a good stint in the session and after putting all of his efforts, he came at the seventh position in the final practice session 1 classification as well.
Both Mercedes GP drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg took eighth and tenth positions respectively in the session.
Paul di Resta put Force India at the ninth position while Lotus, Virgin Racing Team and Hispania Racing Team were again unable to perform well on the grid.
Let’s see whether Hamilton retains his position in the second practice session of the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix.
