McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton still cannot figure out his return to form – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton recently secured his 2nd victory of the 2011 Formula 1 season at the German Grand Prix and proved that he is not going down without a fight.
“The last couple of months have been quite challenging. Constantly up and down. Sometimes we are close and sometimes we are miles away, so believe me with this win things feel much, much better. And we definitely want to continue this way,” he said.
McLaren have not been performing at their best since the last couple of races as they went through a disastrous home race at Silverstone and even before that, they failed to finish on the podium for the European Grand Prix as well which was quite disappointing
for them.
The team has secured three race wins up until now but still they are 112 points adrift of the championship leaders Red Bull Racing in the constructors’ standings since both of their drivers have not been able to score some good results consistently.
The main problem for McLaren has been consistency this year which is the main reason why Hamilton cannot figure out why and how his form came back at the German Grand Prix.
“But to be honest it puzzles me why we have been so quick this weekend. I feel now that the car is getting better and better, even though the two small upgrades couldn't have possibly closed the gap to anyone else,” said the former world champion.
Hamilton finished just a couple of seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari and this was the first time that Sebastian Vettel did not finish a race on podium this year. Vettel has won 6 races up until now and has scored 9 podium positions as a result of
which he is still leading the championship with 216 points.
Even after these results, the reigning world champion is 77 points ahead of his closest rival Mark Webber and it seems that catching him in the drivers’ standings this season is going to be quite difficult for his rivals.
