McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton tops Free Practice 1 of 2011 Italian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton topped the first Free Practice session of the 2011 Italian Grand Prix on Friday, September 09, 2011 at the Monza racetrack.
All the teams participated in the morning practice session and successfully finished their practice runs in dry conditions.
The teams also tested new upgrades during FP1 in Monza, which have been delivered in their respective cars for the 2011 Italian race weekend.
The Woking-based outfit driver, Hamilton set the fastest time of 1 minute and 23.865 seconds under sun at the Monza racetrack. The Brit had a good stint during FP1 and after using the sets of medium and soft tyres, he dominated the session.
Hamilton was followed by his teammate Jenson Button, who was 0.921 seconds off his pace and after struggling with his MP4-26 car, he ended up in the second spot.
The 2011 Formula 1 leading driver Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel was unable to impress in the practice session, as both of the McLaren drivers were fast as compared to him.
The German finished his first practice session at the third position ahead of his teammate Mark Webber, who came at the fourth place.
Adrian Sutil of Force India was impressive in the session by taking a fifth place after putting all of his efforts.
In the sixth place was Renault’s Vitaly Petrov, who was 2.760 seconds slower on the grid behind Hamilton.
Both the drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa put Ferrari at the seventh and eighth places respectively in FP1 at the Monza racetrack.
Sergio Perez claimed a ninth position for Sauber in the morning practice session. The Mexican struggled with his C30 car and finished his practice run ahead of Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari, who ended his run in the tenth spot.
Both Mercedes GP drivers, Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher failed to finish their practice runs in top ten position and finished in 18th and 11th places respectively.
Virgin Racing Team and Hispania Racing Team drivers finished the practice session at the rear end of the grid.
