McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton wants to be Muhammad Ali of his sport – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he has always been inspired by the legendary boxer, Muhammad Ali and expressed that he wants to be like him in his sport.
Hamilton met the iconic Ali in the opening ceremony of 2012 London Olympics where the former heavyweight champion was privileged in the run up.
The British driver expressed his immense pleasure on his meeting with the best boxer in the history of boxing and said that he is a great fan of Ali.
“It was absolutely amazing, as he definitely is the greatest boxer of all times,” Hamilton told the official Formula 1 website. “I have a lot of books and videos about him, so he is a real icon for me even though he is not really my generation.
Moreover, the 2008 world champion said that Ali’s legacy will remain there for years to come while he said that it is his dream to hear something even a little close to that of the legend in his career.
“The legacy that he has created will go on for many years and that is just phenomenal,” he pointed out. “I can only wish that in years to come, someone would say something even close to that about me. That is still a big dream.”
It will be important to mention that the Briton is undoubtedly one of the most talented drivers in the field and has won one world championship title in his career so far.
Presently, he is standing at fourth place in the drivers’ rakings with 117 points. Moreover, he is just a point ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and is five points behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Besides, he has been one of the most consistent point scorers in the current season so far and has scored two grands prix victories.
Although he faced difficulties in the last few races with the lack of downforce and tyre variations, nevertheless, he is confidently looking forward to maximise his outcome in the forthcoming races to fight for the title after this year’s summer break.
