McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton will not take another mediocre season – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton has recently stated that he will consider his career as a failure if he does not score more Formula 1 titles in the coming years.
“I am not here to race 10 years and only win one or two world championships,” he told the media.
McLaren were unable to score some good results during the pre-season test sessions this year as the team was facing some major reliability issues. However, they claim that their new car MP4-26 has a lot of pace in it and reliability is the only problem they
are facing at the moment.
However, the 2008 Formula 1 world champion will begin his 5th Formula 1 season this year that is expected to commence from March 27, 2011 in Australia on the legendary Albert Park Circuit.
McLaren are currently under a lot of pressure though due to the amount of problems they are facing at the moment and it seems that their new car is not looking as good as their rivals’ comparatively according to the pre-season test sessions’ results.
It is mainly because the team was unable to complete a good amount of laps on its new car as a result of which understanding the MP4-26’s true capabilities became quite difficult.
It is believed that Sebastian Vettel is the favourite driver for the 2011 Formula 1 season according the bookmarkers with Fernando Alonso in the second place.
Lewis Hamilton’s chances on the other hand are looking quite bleak this year once again and it is believed that a clearer picture of each team’s true capabilities will be revealed at the season opening race in Australia.
Lewis recently claimed that he is happy with McLaren as he feels privileged to be a part of the team but warned that he cannot tolerate this mediocrity anymore.
“I haven't been to other factories, but McLaren have some of the greatest people I have ever met in the team. The way they treat their drivers is fantastic. It is a great place to go to work and I feel privileged to be part of the team. They are fighters
and I am a fighter,” he said.
He added that he wants to be one of the most successful drivers of this generation in the sport and in order to do that, he will have to win more championships and races consistently.
“I think you have to continue winning and prove yourself time after time for people to really know that you are the best,” said Lewis.
Hamilton had a pretty good statistical 2010 season as he challenged for the drivers’ title until the very last race of the season that took place in Abu Dhabi.
