McLaren driver Sergio Perez thinks MP4-28 has good potential – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Sergio Perez has expressed satisfaction after the second day of the first pre-season test at Jerez and said that their new car, MP4-28, has got good potential.
Perez seemed very comfortable behind the wheel of his car and covered 81 laps with a fastest time of 1 minute and 19.572 seconds. Furthermore, he managed to gather some valuable data which will be used by the Woking based team to make further advancements
in their car.
“The feedback is good straight away,” he said. “Since I drove out of the garage and did the first laps I knew that this car has good potential.”
In addition, he said that they still have got a lot of work to do, but he is happy because they are moving in the right direction. Besides, he said that they are hoping to get the most out of this year’s pre-season testing programme in order to come up stronger
right from the start of this season.
“We've got a lot of work to do on the next five days that we have and we have to keep our heads down because I think we are going in the right direction. Today was a good day because we managed to do some good programmes and hopefully we can keep doing the
same over the next five days and for the start of the season,” he added.
The Mexican driver performed quite convincingly in the last season and managed to secure three podium finishes for Sauber. However, he could not score points with consistency and failed to score any points after signing his multi-year deal with McLaren.
Even though, he faced a lot of criticism over his poor form during the last few races of the preceding season. Nevertheless, he is positively looking forward to perform well for his new team in this season.
Additionally, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh has shown full support for the young driver. It will be interesting to see whether the 23-year-old will be able to come up to the expectation of such a big team or not.
