McLaren drivers Hamilton, Button feel content after FP1 at 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that both the team drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button are contended after the first free Friday practice session of 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix held at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
The Briton, Hamilton topped the timesheets in FP1 with his best time of 1 minute and 33.572 seconds while his teammate and compatriot set the fifth best time of 1 minute and 34.277 seconds.
However, McLaren pair of drivers could not cover more than 25 laps in total on which Whitmarsh said that the track conditions did not allow them to run any further. Nevertheless, he said that their practice went well.
“It's a dusty circuit so everyone waits a little bit and you only try to run with one set of tyres,” Whitmarsh said. “We were just looking at general overall vehicle balance and just starting to do our setup programme which we'll really start in earnest
this afternoon. Both drivers are reasonably happy with the balance, I think we need to work on traction and grip here but that's really why we've got the data from this morning and we can be ready this afternoon.”
In addition, he said that their main focus is the efficient use of tyres in the next race. He also said that both the drivers are very well capable of achieving victory.
He added that Button is extremely experienced driver and use the tyres incredibly well. Moreover, he said that the 2009 world champion earnestly wants to go ahead of his teammate.
Furthermore, he said that Hamilton is also improving his performance for the races ahead.
It will be very important to mention that Hamilton is currently leading the championship with 45 points which he has achieved after his consistent third place finish in all the opening three races of the season.
Additionally, he has expressed that he is ready to make the necessary sacrifice in his personal life in order to keep his focus on the sport. Moreover, he said that his target is to perform will consistency and to score reasonable points in each and every
race throughout the season.
