McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button urged to get a 1-2 finish for the team
After the brilliant qualifying by both the McLaren team drivers, team boss Martin Whitmarsh urged the duo to give a 1-2 finish at the final race arena toady evening at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Since the Italian Grand Prix held this September, this is the best qualifying seen by the MacLean team drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. The 2008 Champion, Hamilton scored 2nd place on the grid behind the Red
Bull driver Sebastian Vettel whereas Button stood one place ahead of the other Red Bull man Mark Webber at 4th place.
McLaren has a very tough battle to fight at this last round. The World Champion of last year, Button, is already out of the race for the title whereas Hamilton stands at 4th place in the Drivers’ Championship with 222
points. This makes him 24 points adrift the chart-topper and old foe Fernando Alonso. Now, to get the second title of his career, he needs to bag victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, while ill-fortune needs to fall loose over the other top three drivers.
In such a situation where there is nothing to lose, the team principal has instructed both the men to go ahead without any pressure, and do their best leaving the result to be decided on its own.
While talking to the media only a little time back, Whitmarsh said, “We've got a reasonable set-up, the long run pace looks good, certainly other people appear to have greater [tyre] degradation than us, and we've got two fantastic
racing drivers who don't have excessive pressure on them.”
He added that the team has yet not given hopes for Hamilton’s championship. The season has unfolded in a very strange manner and many surprising things have happened on the track all through the year. The British team now anticipates
seeing wonders on the track this weekend as well.
The determined young driver, Hamilton, while talking to the media after yesterday’s qualifying, said that it’s a ‘do and die’ situation for him. He also warned everyone that a very aggressive driving style would be shown by him
as he is adamant to get victory at any cost.
Echoing Hamilton’s ambition, Whitmarsh told the press earlier today, "We still harbour the ambition for Lewis to be world champion and we will do until the last corner of the last lap, because we've won a championship like that,
so we're not going to give up.”
