McLaren eager for 2011 Singapore race after getting strong results in Italy – Formula 1 news
McLaren-Mercedes team are eager for the upcoming Singapore race weekend, which will take place on September 25, 2011 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The team principal Martin Whitmarsh talked to the media and said that they are feeling good to go to Singapore for the 14th round of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
He added that he believes both of their drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will perform well on the grid in Singapore this weekend following their positive results in the 2011 Italian Grand Prix.
Talking to reporters, Whitmarsh commented, “At Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, the reality is that we’re fortunate enough to have two drivers who are never satisfied to merely sit behind another car; but the addition of DRS means that we should expect some truly
electrifying racing this weekend.”
He went on to mention, “In just a few years, the Singapore Grand Prix has become a classic Formula 1 event – the circuit and facilities are truly world-class and the setting and atmosphere of the race make it one of the jewels of the calendar.”
On the other hand, both of the drivers Hamilton and Button are looking forward to successful race weekend at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Hamilton stated that he is hopeful of having a positive Singapore Grand Prix, as the team car’s pace is good from the last few races of the ongoing season. He also mentioned that he loves to race on street circuits, so he believes he will enjoy the 2011
Singapore race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit this weekend.
His teammate Button is also looking forward to a strong Singapore race weekend. After getting very strong results from the Monza race, the Brit commented that he wants to beat Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in the Singapore Grand Prix, as he is sure he can
do it.
After taking part in the 13 rounds of the season so far, the Woking-based outfit is placed at the second position with 325 points in the 2011 constructors’ championship.
Let’s see how McLaren-Mercedes perform in the rest of the 2011 campaign.
