McLaren expect a competitive edge over Red Bull in 2012 British GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren sporting director Sam Michael expect to have a competitive edge over Red Bull Racing in 2012 British Grand Prix which is to be held at Silverstone Circuit on July 8.
Michael said that they have planned to launch made some major updates in MP4-27 which will definitely enhance their race pace. Moreover, he said that the track conditions of the next race will hopefully support them.
“I think that has got some circuit specific nature to it. In past Valencia hasn't been a track that we have been particularly good at and if you look forward to Silverstone this weekend it definitely sits more in line with where McLaren car's strengths are,”
he said.
It will be important to mention that Red Bull introduced some upgrades in the European GP which tremendously improved the pace of RB8 and their driver, Sebastian Vettel claimed the pole position. Afterwards, the veteran German driver remained dominant in
the race and had a lead of 20 seconds but unfortunately his alternator failed and he was retired.
However, Michael expressed his doubt over the update of the defending champions and said that it may not prove out to be much influential in the race ahead.
In addition, he said that they are trying their best to improve their qualifying pace in the forthcoming race so as to secure competitive grid positions in order to attain better results.
“They [Red Bull] did take a step forward but I don't think it's big as pace that Sebastian showed in first stint. We'll be looking to correct that in Silverstone. If you look back to Barcelona we were almost 0.6s in front of them on grid before we took penalty,”
he said.
The Woking based team is presently standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 137 points. Besides, they are 11 points ahead of Lotus and 39 points behind Red Bull.
Meanwhile, their drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button are standing at 3rd and 8th place in the drivers’ rankings and they are positively looking forward to perform well in the season ahead so as to make their position stronger
in this year’s fight for the championship title.
