McLaren expect favourable weather conditions in Hockenheim to test updates – Formula 1 news
McLaren sporting director Sam Michael says that they are expecting the weather conditions in 2012 German Grand Prix which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22, to be favourable as they intend to test some important updates in MP4-27.
The Woking based team struggled with the changing weather conditions in the British GP at Silverstone Circuit and could not make the proper assessment of their upgrade package. Resultantly, they faced issues during the race and their drivers, Jenson Button
and Lewis Hamilton could not attain better results.
Nevertheless, they have planned to come up stronger in the approaching race with some essential updates which they are looking forward to test during the practice sessions and are hoping that the weather will remain suitable throughout the weekend.
“[The weather] can be a pain because - especially if you're trying to get forces and loads out of new components, so you're trying to measure different things during practice sessions - having the weather there, especially if it starts raining and being
intermediate conditions then that is a bit of a pain. It's the same for everyone, but if you're trying to bring a load of upgrades then it can make it more difficult to distinguish them.”
Presently, they are at fourth place in the constructors’ standings with 142 points. Besides, they are ahead of Mercedes and are behind Lotus.
Meanwhile, Button is at 8th position in the drivers’ championship with 50 points. Furthermore, he is behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus and is ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber.
On the other hand, Hamilton is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ rankings with 92 points. Additionally, he is behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing and is ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
It will be important to mention that the competition has been really tough in the current season as there have been only two drivers who have successfully scored two race wins while the remaining victories have been claimed by different drivers.
Let’s see how McLaren perform with their world champion pair of drivers in the upcoming races.
