McLaren expected to introduce a new exhaust system in their 2011 package
Most of the teams recently revealed their new cars for the 2011 Formula 1 season, however, McLaren announced that they will launch their new car later than their rivals Red Bull Racing Team, Ferrari and Mercedes. They plan to launch their new package on
the 4th of February after the first pre-season test session in Valencia comes to an end.
According to some rumours, it was recently revealed that McLaren will introduce a new exhaust system in their car as well which is going to be something similar to the one Renault has introduced.
The new Renault was tested by Vitaly Petrov at the first day of the test session and the team seems quite confident about the upcoming season and they believe that their new car will enable both Vitaly and Robert Kubica to give a much better performance
than they did in 2010.
“I'm not going to talk too much about it, I will let our competitors find out by themselves. Yes, we have decided to go a little bit brave in this design and this area to make the car a bit different,” Renault boss Eric Boullier told the media.
It is believed that the new exhaust system helps the car generate more downforce through the flow of air to the single diffuser which is now mandatory for the teams.
“If you are too conservative you will stay at the back of the queue and we do not want to spend our time copying the others. If you want to be at the front you have to be creative and you also need to bring this creativeness in the team spirit,” Eric added.
After this new invention, it seems that most of the teams might follow Renault’s footsteps and come up with something similar to this new exhaust system.
“Renault's thinking is in the right direction. We are working on a similar solution,” said Mercedes’ team boss Ross Brawn.
McLaren is expected to launch its new car the MP4-26 in Berlin, on the 4th of February after the first pre-season test session comes to an end. It is going to be interesting to see how they played with the device and how different
it is from Renault’s invention.
