McLaren flying new wing from London to Japan
The entire McLaren team across the continents has sprung into action. The team engineer is flying all the way from London to Japan with a new front wing for the MP4-25 of Lewis Hamilton.
The first practice session on Friday morning saw the team in big trouble as both its drivers met accidents at the Suzuka track.
Both McLaren drivers ran too wide in today’s runs, resulting in two wrecked cars. In just a little while, all the mechanics in the garage for the British team were on their toes to recreate the damaged cars as quickly as possible before the second practice
of the day. However, they were only able to do the patch work temporarily. For qualifying, they have asked their team engineers to fly to Japan brining a new front wing from their factory back home.
The front wing that was brought along with the team has already been attached to Jenson Button’s car and another one is now needed for Hamilton’s aid.
The engineers will reach the track early morning on Saturday so that Hamilton’s car could be ready till qualifying that would take place on Saturday afternoon, following the day's morning practice session.
After damaging the front wing, Hamilton’s car was rushed to the garage where the entire interval was consumed fixing it. However, he was only able to return to the track 9 minutes before the end of the second session. He finally called it a day when Hamilton
stood as the 13th fastest driver from the second session.
After the two sessions on Friday, McLaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh, distressed with the endeavour of both the divers, talked to the media and said, "We can repair the wing with the new end plates.”
While the team waits for the new wing from home, Hamilton's crew would need to work all through the night as his chassis is badly wrecked. For the afternoon session, it was only patched-up while major part of work would be done overnight to get it ready
for tomorrow.
Although Button had a similar accident, but luckily, his car was less damaged as he safely skipped a contact with the tyre barrier.
Several other drivers also spun on the track including Michael Schumacher, yet Hamilton’s was the worst.
As the two practice runs came to an end, the Red Bull’s driver Sebastian Vettel, who led both the sessions commented, "The bumps in the first part are worse than last year."
