McLaren have no alternate plan if Lewis Hamilton leaves in 2013 – Formula 1news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that they have no alternate plan for their driver-line up if Lewis Hamilton decides to leave the team after 2012 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton’s deal with the Woking based team is going to expire at the conclusion of this season and there have been a lot of speculations that he is not willing to renew his agreement for 2013. Moreover, he has been linked with Mercedes as the rumours about
Michael Schumacher’s retirement after this season are also on the boom.
However, the 2008 world champion has not expressed anything about his future in the sports. Meanwhile, Whitmarsh has said that even though they want their star driver to race with them in the next season too but he insisted that they will not force him to
stay.
Furthermore, he said that currently they are busy in making the essential preparations to win this year’s championship title, therefore, they have not made any kind of back-up plan if Hamilton quits.
“We want Lewis to stay, and we want him to stay if he wants to stay. But in terms of when you are trying to win a Championship, I've a number of priorities,” said Whitmarsh. “You divide your time, energy and focus on those things - one of them is making
the car faster, better; another is dealing with all the operational issues to make sure you don't make mistakes, and the other is dealing with your own drivers. But rightly or wrongly I haven't spent a lot of energy on that (plan B) subject.”
Nevertheless, the Briton said that he is looking forward to arrange a meeting with Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment which handles Hamilton’s contracts. In addition, he said that he is hoping to have some talks over the matter before the Singapore GP.
He also said that he is aware of the fact that XIX have been into discussions with the Brackley based team in the past while he said that he understands the whole situation very well.
Above and beyond, let’s see whether the British driver remains in McLaren or not.
