McLaren hope to be competitive in Silverstone – Formula 1 News
McLaren sporting director, Sam Michael, has said that they are eying to come up stronger in the 2013 British Grand Prix despite a poor weekend in Canada.
Jenson Button of the Woking based team could not score even a single point in the Canadian GP as he came 12th after taking a start from 14th grid slot. In contrast, his teammate, Sergio Perez also remained
unable to pocket any points and came 11th in the race. Michael has called the weekend in Montreal as brutal and asserted that they earnestly need to make some significant improvements in their car in order to get their pace back to fight well with
their rivals in the season ahead.
“It was a brutal weekend for the team,” the McLaren sporting director told Sky Sports F1.
“To be lapped by the top cars, that is probably the most important thing for us to concentrate on. We are still developing the car and it is responding, just not as fast as we had hoped,” he said.
Besides, he said that they are targeting to make some essential developments in their car so as to improve its pace for the forthcoming race and are hoping to score competitive points.
“I think the picture of Montreal was painted blacker than what it probably is as we have made progress over the last number of races and I think for Silverstone our thoughts are that we will definitely be more competitive than
what we were in Montreal,” he added.
In addition, he stated that they are also working on their next year’s car so that they can perform well right from the beginning of the season. However, he insisted that their main focus is to resolve their current issues to score
good points in the upcoming races and to make their position stronger in this year’s championship fight.
At present, the British squad is standing at 6th place in the constructors’ championship with 37 points. Moreover, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and behind their major rival at the moment, Force India.
Let’s see how they show up in the next race and whether they will be able to resolve their reliability problems or not.
