McLaren hope to continue with Mercedes engines until 2015 – Formula 1 news
McLaren have recently claimed that they are willing to stay with the Mercedes engines until 2015 at least.
Formula 1 sport will go through some major engine regulations changes in 2014.
It is believed that Renault, Mercedes and Ferrari at least will stay as a part of the sport even after the engine regulations take effect. According to some rumours, it was revealed that McLaren might change their engine suppliers by the end of 2013 but
the team’s managing director Jonathan Neale claims that they have no intention of doing so.
“I'm not going to discuss the contractual terms within that, but I can give a cast-iron guarantee that it is our intention to stay with Mercedes-Benz and these engines as we transition between here to the next generation of engines. They are our engine partner,
we very much like working with them and want to do so for many years to come,” he told reporters via Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in.
He added that Mercedes’ engine department is also going to work with the team’s own factory more closely in the near future in order to bond the two departments even more.
“Our job, as theirs is, is to make sure Mercedes-Benz has the best engine on the grid and is best prepared and most ready [for 2014],” he said.
Neale claims that the team is already working quite closely with Mercedes in the engine department and since both of these departments have a close relation for a very long time now, they are quite committed to one another. He said they are not willing to
depart anytime soon as their connection in the sport is quite essential for the team’s performance.
The 2011 Formula 1 season has been quite disappointing for the team but this is how the sport is and teams face such declines temporarily.
The team is quite committed about its future in Formula 1 and they are hoping for a championship challenging performance in 2012 which is their ultimate goal in the sport.
