McLaren hope to make significant improvements for 2013 Chinese GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that they are positively looking forward to make some considerable developments in their car for the 2013 Chinese Grand Prix after a disappointing start to the season.
The Woking based team could not secure competitive results in the first two races of the season. Although, Jenson Button seemed really strong in the Malaysian GP, but he failed to score any point for his team because of the wheel gun issue. Nonetheless,
Whitmarsh has said that they are not feeling disappointed and are aiming to come up stronger in the next race of the season.
The Briton said that they have gathered some significant information to make the essential developments in their car. Furthermore, he said that they could not maximise their potential in the second race due to many reasons. However, he asserted that they
will surely make a step forward in the forthcoming race.
“We've got some good data and I think we've now got an opportunity to go out there and improve upon it,” Whitmarsh said. “We know what we had [in Malaysia] isn't optimal for various reasons. We did some experiments, it responded to those experiments and
I would be very disappointed if we don't take another step in China and that's what we're going to do.”
Besides, he said that they have a very competent car as compared to their rivals and they are aiming to make the most out of their development process so as to compete well in this year’s championship fight.
“Yeah, but we've got to get better; a good race car has got to be good on bumps or any kind of a circuit so we've just got to improve the car,” he added.
He also said that they are planning to make some significant step-ups in their car so as to attain better results in the next race.
It will be important to mention that the British squad faced enormous technical and tyre management issues in 2012 because of which they couldn’t secure competitive position. Let’s see how they perform in the upcoming races of this season.
