McLaren hopeful of taking strong start to 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
McLaren-Mercedes are hopeful of taking a very strong start to the 2012 Formula 1 season.
The team principal Martin Whitmarsh talked to the media and said that both the team drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button must take strong start to the next season in order to win the 2012 championship.
Whitmarsh added that at the moment the entire team are busy and working to make a championship-winning car for the 2012 F1 season.
The Woking-based outfit principal also mentioned that Hamilton and Button need great cars in order to fight for the 2012 championship and that they will develop and supply championship-winning cars for them at the start of next year.
On the other hand, McLaren Racing managing director Jonathan Neale stated that he believes the next season will be challenging for them.
Neale added that McLaren will have to start upcoming F1 season quick if they want to win the 2012 title.
Apart from that, he discussed the 2011 Formula 1 season so far, and mentioned that they are still showing that they can out-develop and stay close to every team. In addition, he said that they have consistently won races, they are consistently on the podium,
but they could not win the championship and that is a frustration for the team.
Neale commented, “We do a new car every year despite the fact there's a constantly changing set of regulations. The carry over that we expect from the car that won on Sunday to the first test car on February 1 will be around six percent or something like
that.”
He went on to mention, “So we're running a high-‑speed research and development organisation, but it's up to us to give something the drivers can really get hold of and exploit. And I think Lewis and Jenson, as back-‑to-‑back word champions, deserve the
best. So that's a clear target.”
The team’s managing director further added that they love winning races, but they want to win some more championships for the bright future of the team in the sport.
Let’s see whether the team takes a strong start to the 2012 Formula 1 season with their more developed car.
