McLaren hoping to run 10-12 upgrades at the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
According to McLaren’s chief engineer Tim Goss, the team is going to test 10 or 12 upgrades for its new car, the MP4-26 at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The team planned a number of upgrades for the Turkish Grand Prix but due to some technical manufacturing issues, the team was unable to test those parts as a result of which they were not added to the car.
Since those parts were not tested, they were not reliable and since McLaren are hoping to score good points consistently, the team decided to run the car without those parts.
“As usual the relentless pace of upgrades continues. We have a package of upgrades that we're taking to Spain - we take upgrades to every race - but in total we will have about 10 or 12 upgrades, some of which will be noticeable from the outside and some
of them are not noticeable,” said Goss.
The chief engineer added that the team’s current objective is to try its best to win races and ultimately, win the championships as well. Since the 2011 Formula 1 season has just begun, McLaren can still catch up on Red Bull Racing Team’s pace. Goss claims
that the team is hoping to come up with as many upgrades as they can at each race.
“We've been living with some sub-optimal packaging in that region for several races now and I think what you'll see is some bodywork and floor changes that aim to tidy up that area of the installation,” he stated.
Other than that, he revealed that the team will apply some noticeable upgrades to the rear of the MP4-26 in Barcelona which has already gone through some major changes from its original design.
McLaren are hoping to score better results at the upcoming races in order get nearer to the Red Bull Racing team in terms of points. The team is aiming for nothing less than the titles and since McLaren are the only competitive team which has the ability
to compete against Red Bull, they are hoping to improve their car as soon as possible in order to catch up with the reigning world champion in terms of pace.
