McLaren insist Lewis Hamilton will not move to Mercedes in 2013 – Formula 1 news
McLaren have insisted that their driver Lewis Hamilton will not move to Mercedes in 2013 and have played down all the reports in this regard.
Eddie Jordan, the ex-owner of Jordan has said that Hamilton is going to join the Brackley based team in the next season and will replace the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher who will leave the sport at the end of this year.
Moreover, Jordan said that the chief executive officer of Formula 1, Bernie Ecclestone expressed that the record championship holder is going to take retirement at the conclusion of this season while the veteran German driver underplayed this statement.
In addition, he said if Schumacher will leave Mercedes, the 2008 world champion will be the potential replacement who has not yet entered into any kind agreement with his current team.
"I believe Hamilton and Mercedes have already agreed personal terms and deal could be imminent," Jordan said. "Some weeks ago I said on TV that I felt Lewis was on move and I had an idea at time he had been speaking to Ferrari, which we now know is true.
But I can now confirm his people have had meetings with Mercedes. Bernie Ecclestone made it clear to me live on television that Schumacher was leaving, although Schumacher later played it down. So it would appear Michael is leaving and Lewis is arriving at
Mercedes. Hamilton has not agreed terms with McLaren yet."
On the other hand, the Woking based team has completely discharged all the speculations and has asserted that their driver will remain with them in the coming season. Besides, they stated that presently, they are into conversations with Hamilton regarding
the new deal and they expect that they will soon come up with something positive.
Contrarily, Mercedes also downplayed the ongoing rumours and said that they cannot pass any kind of statement until or unless they fully confirm their driver line-up for the next year.
The British driver is surely one of the most talented drivers in the field and it will be interesting to see with which team he races in the future.
