According to the 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and he will be the highlights of the 2011 Formula 1 championship even though McLaren suffered vitally this year in terms of pace and consistency.
McLaren was extremely sloppy in 2010 when it comes to pace and it seems that they were lucky to end up in such a good position in the drivers’ standings. McLaren was more consistent than Ferrari any day of the week but by the second half of the 2010 Formula
1 championship, Ferrari started to improve massively and therefore went ahead of McLaren while McLaren on the other hand started to get sloppier race after race.
The two drivers were going extremely well until the half-way mark into the season and it seemed that McLaren will give Red Bull a tough time in the second half as well as Lewis Hamilton was leading the championship until his 2 consecutive retirements in
Italy and Singapore.
McLaren was unable to come up with good packages and strategies in the 2nd half and at a point, it seemed that they weren’t even trying to out-think their opponents. Maybe it was because the team realised that they cannot match the pace of Ferrari
or Red Bull or maybe because the team just did not believe in its drivers. Either way, McLaren will not be able to dominate 2011 until or unless they deliver an outstanding car and both Lewis and Jenson deliver consistently.
Lewis Hamilton just won 3 races in 2011 and it simply wasn’t enough for the team. Even though the team was quite competitive in terms of points, McLaren was unable to prove throughout the season that they were running a championship-winning drive and therefore,
the team lost the lead and title to Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
If McLaren is hoping for a great run in 2011, they will have to stop day dreaming and get to work instead of making statements.
