McLaren is not going to give up that easy
McLaren drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton still insist the title is still within the team’s reach despite the margin of the gap between themselves and the championship leader Mark Webber.
Hamilton is 28 points adrift of the championship leader while his teammate is 31 points behind him with just three races remaining in the season. Therefore, McLaren will definitely require a victory at the Korean grand prix in order to stay in a competitive
position in the championship.
Lewis believes that this weekend will hopefully have a little bit more of a fighting chance against the Red Bulls and Ferraris as compared to the last 3-4 grand prix and it will be a bit more fortunate as well.
“I think anything is possible and you can tell that us as a team and Ferrari are pushing very hard, I don't think the gap [to Red Bull] is that big, we have out qualified them in one race maybe, but I think we can close the gap okay,” said Hamilton in Thursday's
press conference.
Although Button’s chances are just hanging by a thread as he has the least chances of winning the title out of the top 5. He believes that he will not give up on the title until it is mathematically impossible to win.
“Every time we go to a race it seems this is the critical race, but it is obviously a lot more difficult for us to win the world championship this year. But we've seen in past seasons that anything is possible, we've all had failures this year and issues,
so it is definitely still possible after this event if it is mathematically possible,” said Button.
Jenson Button believes that it is good to still be involved in the hunt for the title with just three races to go in the season. It is more difficult for him as compared to the rest of the 4 drivers but still it is not impossible. Jenson hopes to score some
good points in the last few races and throw everything at his opponents including the sink in order to make sure that he stays in the championship race.
This is going to be the last race for the McLaren drivers if they do not score a good result. If they want to stay in the championship, they will have to keep their hopes high and do everything they can to ensure that they have the best piece of machinery
on track.
