McLaren look forward to find out their issues in the Young Driver Test – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that their aim is to get down to the bottom of the issues, in this week’s Young Driver Test, which have hampered their performance in the 2013 Formula 1 season so far.
The Woking based squad have faced immense technical and tyre management problems due to which their drivers, Jenson Button and Sergio Perez, have failed to score good points with consistency in the season until now.
Despite facing huge problems, Whitmarsh has expressed that they are not feeling upset and are positively looking forward to find out the areas in which they are lacking progress in the approaching test which is to be held at Silverstone circuit this week.
Besides, he said that their main focus is to investigate their car’s aerodynamics and mechanics.
“The Silverstone young driver test will be an extremely useful opportunity for us to conduct further investigative work into the effects of aerodynamic and mechanical changes to the car,” he is quoted as saying by Autosport.
It will be important to mention that Button and Perez are not going to take part in this week’s test and the 55-year-old has said that they are eying to provide a good opportunity to their test and development drivers to improve their understanding about
an F1 car. He also stated that they are looking forward to gather some essential data in the test to make the necessary progress for the season ahead.
“Just as importantly, it'll be a proper opportunity for our test and development drivers to further develop their knowledge and understanding of modern Formula 1 machinery, while simultaneously allowing them to help us refine the correlation between the
track and the simulator,” he added.
Currently, they are standing at 6th place in the constructors’ championship with 49 points. Moreover, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and are ten points behind their major opponent, Force India.
It will be interesting to see whether they will be able to resolve their issues or not and how they perform in the Hungarian Grand Prix which is to be held at Hungaroring on July 28, 2013.
