McLaren look forward to perform well in the Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that they are looking forward to perform well in the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix after delivering a convincing performance
in the Chinese GP.
The Woking based squad struggled a lot with some huge technical issues in the last few races of 2012. Although, they tried their best to make some essential step-ups
in their car during this year’s pre-season testing programme. However, their driver, Jenson Button could only secure 9th place finish in the season opener after qualifying for 10th grid slot. Afterwards, even though he took a good start
in the Malaysian GP, but unfortunately could not score even a single point due to a technical problem in his car.
Nonetheless, the British driver showed an impressive pace in the third race held at Shanghai International Circuit in China and managed to secure 5th
place finish after taking a start from 8th grid position. In contrast, his teammate, Sergio Perez has only been able to score two points in the first three grands prix.
Whitmarsh has expressed that they are quite happy with their results in the third race as they managed to score some competitive points.
“Bahrain marks the end of the opening fly-away leg of the 2013 world championship,” Whitmarsh said. “That being the case, following on in quick succession from
last weekend's Chinese GP, we'll look to consolidate our achievements in Shanghai with further solid points finishes this weekend.”
Besides, he said that they are aiming to make some significant developments in their car to improve its pace in order to attain better results in the next race.
He also said that they are targeting to create profound understanding of MP4-28 so as to compete well with their rivals.
“While the first three races haven't been the easiest for us, there's been a little progress at every round, and we'll be looking for another improved showing,
as well as the opportunity to increase our understanding of MP4-28, in Bahrain this weekend,” he said
“The work that goes on at the track is only tip of the iceberg,” he added.
