McLaren make deal with Sergio Perez – Formula 1 news
McLaren have made a new deal with Sergio Perez of Sauber for the next season as they seek for a potential replacement of their driver, Lewis Hamilton according to a report in Mail on Sunday.
Hamilton’s agreement with the Woking based team is going to expire at the end of this year and there have been a lot of speculations that the British driver is going to join Mercedes as a replacement of the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher.
However, the 2008 world champion has not expressed anything special in this regard and has said that he is just focussing to win the championship title this year.
"I don't have a timeline. My focus is on trying to win this world championship," Hamilton is quoted by Reuters.
On the other hand, Perez who has been considered as a good replacement of Felipe Massa of Ferrari after his incredible second podium finish in the Malaysian GP has now been linked with the British squad for the coming year.
It will be important to mention that the report stated that McLaren have become exhausted after their negotiations with Hamilton’s management company XIX Entertainment which is not coming at any conclusion. Therefore, it seems that they are eying to take
the Mexican driver into their team for the next year.
"Only a week after McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh admitted the team did not have a 'Plan B', it is understood contact has been made with Perez as Hamilton ponders a £60million offer from Mercedes," the report stated.
Furthermore, the report claimed that Perez’s move to McLaren is like a new beginning for him in the world of F1 where he can explore more of his talent and can achieve more in the upcoming years of his career.
"Hamilton may find his future is taken out of his own hands with the spectre of Perez being courted by McLaren, who do not want to be outmanoeuvred by the 27-year-old British driver," report claimed.
Over and above, it will be interesting to see whether Perez secures a race seat with McLaren or the Briton leaves his team in the next season.
