McLaren not taking anything for granted in 2012 – Formula 1 news
McLaren managing director, Jonathan Neale has said that they are planning for a long-term fight to claim the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship title and are taking nothing for granted.
Neale said that even though they struggled in few races during the first half of the season. Nonetheless, he said that they have performed exceptionally well in the Hungarian Grand Prix due to which they have gained a lot of confidence for the season ahead.
Furthermore, he said that although they have regained their lost form after the last race, however, they are not going to relax in the forthcoming races and will keep on making the considerable step ups to win this year’s championship battle.
"The last race in Hungary was obviously very pleasing," he said. "It was the 150th pole position for team which we should be very proud of. Lewis found good pace in car and I think updates we brought through Germany and Hungary have definitely restored degree
of competitiveness, but we can't take anything for granted.”
Moreover, he said that he is extremely delighted with the performance of their driver, Jenson Button in the season so far. Nevertheless, he asserted that the fight is very tough and they need to push harder in the approaching races so as to win the title
this year.
"It was very pleasing to see Jenson in fourth place on grid in qualifying as well. So we have reasons to believe that we are making progress, but it was very tight race and I think it will be in next few races as well," he added.
Currently, the Woking based team is standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 193 points. Besides, they are just a point ahead of Lotus while the leading contender, Red Bull Racing is quite ahead of them with 246 points.
The season has been very much unpredictable until now as almost all the contenders have shown some amazing competencies. Over and above, it will be interesting to see what updates all the teams bring in the Belgian GP which is to be held at Spa this weekend.
